Most people would not have noticed that during a lifetime of lockdown, electricity usage had deviated so much from the trend. While power consumption is generally high during the summer, households have seen record-breaking usage this summer. The truth is that many people had no idea that this type of usage would naturally result in an electricity bill. This is why there are so many complaints about the electricity bill. In this case, it is best to know how long a unit of electricity costs per unit of household power.
First let's look at the situation in middle houses. Medium Malayalee houses with no TV or refrigerator are few. Before the lockdown, the TV used to be four or five hours, but now it's 15 hours. A Light and a Fan Must Watch on TV. In this way, five hours is used as a unit. At least two units a day (including light and fan) for TV viewing. A fan in the bedroom became a half-unit after 8 hours of work. So when you use a two bedroom unit, it costs only one unit fan.
The refrigerator can be used from one to three units per day. If the compressor is damaged, it will be even more. In the middle-class households, there are four units a day, when the necessities are increased. Considering 60 days usage on an average of 4 units, 240 units. The government will subsidize those who use up to 240 units in two months. If the consumption goes beyond 240 units without careful control, the subsidy will go out and the bill will increase.
Now let's look at some larger houses with more rooms. We look at the life of the lock-down in homes with modern systems like microwave ovens, air conditioners, washing machines, water heaters, and electricity-powered treadmills.
Remember that an air conditioner of 1.5 tonnes per unit of power will work for half an hour. Instant Geyser, a small device used for heating water, turns on one unit of electricity in 20 minutes.
Kitchen appliances include induction cookers (one unit at 30 minutes), microwave ovens (one unit at 50 minutes), dishwashers (one unit at 30 minutes) and refrigerators (from one unit to three units per day), and relatively more energy-efficient appliances. The power treadmill operates for 40 minutes and costs one unit of electricity.
If the monthly usage is less than 500 units, the telescopic tariffs will start with the lowest rates. But if the biannual usage exceeds 500 units, then each unit from the beginning must pay a fixed amount for that unit. If the unit is above 500 units, you have to pay Rs.5.80 per unit. Customers using 601 units to 700 units will have to pay Rs 6.60, 701 units to 800 units will be charged Rs 6.90 and 801 units to 1000 units will cost Rs 7.10. Consumers using above 1000 units will have to pay Rs 7.90 for the entire unit.
